Press Release By Teere And Ich Germany On The Donation Made To The Bongo Hospital
TEERE, a non-governmental organization in the Upper East Region in partnership with two German
Organisations, the Inter-NATIONAL CHILDREN Help (ICH) and the Senior Expert Service (SES) has
handed over medical equipment and furniture to the Bongo hospital at a short ceremony at the
forecourt of the hospital.
The support is in response to a request made by the Bongo Community during the TEERE Local Government
Forum (TLGF) in Bongo which is TEERE’s main governance flagship model that we use to achieve our
good governance objectives. The TLGF was also organized in Nabdam district and at the regional
level in Bolgatanga. The TLGF brings together citizens to discuss issues of serious concerns to them.
It also offers citizens the opportunity meet duty duties to discuss development in the district and
in their communities. During the first TLGF in Bongo, citizens raised serious concerns about inadequate
medical supplies, inadequate medical equipment, beds etc at the Bongo district hospital. The TEERE team
together with two senior experts who participated in the forum visited the hospital and realized that
they really required serious support especially at the children’s ward. This is how the two donations
came to Bongo.
The donation which includes ultrasound and other equipment, hospital beds, cushioned chairs, chest
drawers and many others with an estimated cost of €500.000.00 is the largest donation by the Inter-NATIONAL
Children Help-Germany (www.int-children-help.de). A German Philanthropist, Ernst Knapp supported with
funds to transport the donation from Germany to Bongo. This is the second and biggest donation TEERE
has secured for Bongo District Hospital since 2017.
The occasion was graced by the regional Minister of the Upper East region, Ms. Patience Paulina Abayage,
the Paramount Chief of Bongo, Naba Baba Salifu Alemyaarum, the Bongo DCE, Mr. Peter Awimbisa, four
representatives from ICH including its president, Dr. Dieter Kindermann, three senior experts including
Gerhard Lauth, staff of the Ghana Health Service, the Medical Director of Health for Bongo, Mr. William
Gudu and several other important dignitaries.
The Medical Superintendent of Bongo district hospital Dr. William Gudu in his speech during the first
donation stated that the hospital was converted from a health center to a district hospital in 1996
without much infrastructure added but it serves the growing population of people within and outside
the district. He added that the hospital gets referrals from 6 other health centers. But in what could
be a solution to the numerous challenges facing the hospital, Naba Baba Salifu, Paramount Chief of Bongo
Traditional Area believes a newly constructed hospital for the district will help eliminate the many health
challenges faced by the district. According to Naba Baba Salifu a site has been earmarked for construction of
a hospital which will befit the status of the district.
About our partners
The Inter-NATIONAL CHILDREN Help (ICH) e.V is a German non-denominational organization which examines
requests for help unbureaucratically and decides on relief measures in the shortest possible time.
Our project accompanying sponsors ensures that relief measures also arrive where they belong, regardless
of whether they cover the cost of children’s clothing, school meals, toys or even larger projects such
as medical aid, therapies, school buses or even school buildings. All of our official work is on a voluntary basis,
and their own assignments often involve a high degree of time and money.
Senior Experten Service (SES) is the Foundation of German Industry for International Cooperation (Stiftung der
deutschen Wirtschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit). It is a non-profit organisation. SES offers interested
retirees the opportunity to pass on their skills and knowledge to others, both within Germany and abroad.
They work in a voluntary capacity area.
Senior Experts help to train both specialist workers and management staff. They help others to help themselves – an
important contribution towards safeguarding a small slice of the future. It is a system that benefits all parties.
TEERE has benefited immensely from the SES and the current donation is one such critical support which emanated
from the initiative of a senior expert, Mr. Gerhard Lauth.
